Windsor Woman's Club Hears Genealogist Ray Thomas
Ray suggested several ways the members could begin their own family tree research project – start with themselves and work backwards in time. Different documents will give you different pieces of information – a birth certificate will tell you the place and time of your birth, a birth announcement will tell you what town/city your parents were living in, not necessarily where you were born. Several members asked about searching for information in other countries and Ray advised that most of this info is available through the Ellis Island or Castle Garden websites. Another excellent source is familysearch.org. These websites are free. There are a lot of websites that specialize in different aspects of research, so do you research before making a yearly payment.
