Mason Hazzard To Receive Eagle Scout Award
Mason Hazzard, 16, of Boy Scout Troop 203, will be honored at a special Eagle Scout ceremony Sunday March 3 at 3 p.m. at First Church in Windsor. The public is invited to attend. To earn Scouting’s highest award, Mason had to earn 21 merit badges, serve as a leader in his troop and complete a major community service project.
Mason’s service project took place at Northwest Park in Windsor, CT. Leading Scouts and adults, Mason built and installed 13 benches along various trails in the park. The project took more than a month to complete.
Mason has been a member of Troop 203, chartered to First Church in Windsor, for 5 years. He has served the troop as patrol leader, quartermaster, assistant senior patrol leader, and Order of the Arrow representative. Mason has also attended the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course and worked as a Counselor in Training at Camp Tadma in Bozrah, CT.
Mason is a sophomore at University High School of Science and Engineering in Hartford. He currently plans on pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering and is an avid rocket enthusiast, having launched his first model rocket as a cub scout.
