Influenza (the Flu) is a serious disease passed from one infected person to another. The flu can cause chills, fever, headache, cough, sore throat and muscle aches. It can lead to pneumonia and death. The Flu can cause people of all ages to become ill but most deaths occur in the elderly. There are many different influenza viruses and those, which most commonly cause disease, change from year to year. It is important to get a flu shot each year in the months before the flu season arrives but should not be given too early in the season to seniors in order to maximize the coverage against the Flu into the spring months. It is important to know that you can not get the flu from the flu shot.
