Envisionfest inaugurates Plaza
On Saturday, September 21, the Windsor downtown experienced an invasion of art that transformed the Plaza to a destination for art lovers. (Photos inside)
Art installations at the Plaza building featured holograms by Boston artist Betsy Connors, visual poetry by Edmond Chibeau from Eastern Connecticut State University, a light installation by Wadsworth Atheneum's Preparator, Jon Eastman, a glass installation by Dennis Peabody, a photography project by Harrison Judd, a fiber installation by Anita Gangi Balkun, interactive art with Terese Newman and much more. Rough Around the Edges held its 4th annual event in two of the store fronts. Included in this installation was work by glass artist Susan Hackett and photography by Daniel Mosher Long. A work by Katherine Pelkey-Tolve hang between the Plaza building and PC Development and film was shown at the entry way of the Plaza theater.
Street art featured art signs including a solar powered piece in front of Town Hall by June Bistanz, interactive weaving with Nina Salazar, on site painting to music with Ethan Boisvert and Jared Gardner, work by Ellen Carey and Lon Pelton at Windsor Federal, glass art by Shannon Gagne at Hairdresser on Fire, flowers by NY artist Joanne Zanoni, yarn bombs by Barbara Steele, portrait painting with Darryl Oates, not your usual face painting with Wendy Shanahan, and paper birds by Tom Radovich.
Performances happened throughout the four hours on the REAP Street stage and in other spaces along the three blocks. and featured Cold Groove percussion, Improv with Tick Tick Boom, Windsor's singin' dentist Steve Lipman, Matica Arts with a unicycle, Beat Performance with David Cutright, Jared Gardner and Sayung Chang, and experimental music with Windsor Johnson and others.
A very success event that we all hope will become a tradition.
