Fundraiser For Assistance Dogs at The Whistle Stop
The Whistle Stop Cafe, in Windsor, CT. will be hosting a fund raising evening for Assistance Dogs Unlimited to help finance a total hip replacement surgery for Piper, a lab mix, so that she can be trained to assist a mobility Impaired person. The event will be held on the evening of Saturday, November 23rd beginning at 6 pm. Don Sineti, well known folk singer, songwriter and instramentalist, and other musicians, will provide an evening of traditional music.
Assistance Dogs Unlimited, a small, non-profit organization based in Rocky Hill, acquires rescue dogs from shelters and trains them to be assistance dogs.. ADU is operated by Jim Waltman and the organization's Board of Directors.
Piper was rescued from a high kill shelter in Kentucky. She had been starved and abused and was in poor physical condition but was identified as possessing service dog qualities. She was sent to Waltman for rehab and training. It was soon discovered that she needed total hip replacement before she could begin training. After surgery, rehab and training Piper will be able to play it forward by living her life as an assistance dog and companion to a mobility impaired person.
The Whistle Stop, in Windsor Center, will be donating a percentage of the evenings proceeds toward the fund to pay for Piper's surgery.
