Kiwanis Donates to Kids' Backpack Food Program

The Kiwanis Club of Windsor is a service organization comprised of caring men and women from all walks of life. Their objective is to bring aide to children in need. The majority of their efforts benefit children in the Windsor community. On March 13th Kiwanis members, Art Hamel and Bruce Buchan, presented a $250.00 check to Kristen Reardon of Windsor Social Services for the benefit of the Hunger Action Team's Weekend Wheels program. Art and Bruce are also active volunteers with the Weekend Wheels program.

The Weekend Wheels program distributes supplementary food to school children in need in Windsor. Children from eligible families receive a wheeled backpack filled with nutritious foods each Friday afternoon to bring home for the weekend. This program is currently offered at John F. Kennedy, Oliver Ellsworth, Clover Street and Poquonock Schools. If you are interested in donating to or participating in the Weekend Wheels program, please call Kristen Formanek at Windsor Social Services at 860-285-1839.
