WIN-TV Readies for Summer KidVid

When WIN-TV’s popular summer program, KIDVID kicks off June 23, it will debut WIN-TV’s new editing center, two new iPads, and support from area businesses and restaurants. Jenny Hawran, Station Manager at WIN-TV is thrilled to see the growth of the program over the past 4 years. “We’ve added another full week of workshops this summer due to popular demand and we have a brand new workshop curriculum that focuses not only on television production and editing, but also graphic design, special effects and green screen technology.”

Hawran credits a $28,000 State of Connecticut PEGPETIA grant for giving WIN-TV the ability to create a computer editing center with 8 Mac computers, updated and expanded software and new ethernet wiring. With more computers available, WIN-TV was able to open registration to a larger amount of students this summer.

As well as state support, local support has skyrocketed for this summer’s program. Program donations from Windsor Federal Savings, PC Development Group, The Hartford Giving Committee, B. Sure Home Inspection, The Windsor Historical Society, The Windsor Chamber of Commerce and Vantis Life will help to pay for supplies and additional staffing. An added support this year to community families has been the fact that organizations such as the Windsor Jaycees, The Rotary Club and The Windsor Education Foundation have offered to sponsor qualifying selected students by donating the money for them to attend the program.

“Honestly, when I see how generous this town is and how much they support the success of this program and our kids, I am just blown away” Hawran says.

She goes on to explain that restaurants in town, especially, have gone above and beyond for them.

“Tunxis Grille, Mahaney’s, Union Street Tavern, Dom’s Broad Street Eatery and Beanery at Bart’s have all offered to take a day of the week for the duration of the program and supply lunches for all the KIDVID kids. Isn’t that incredible? Because of this kind of support, we can keep the cost to attend way down, and more kids can attend. ”
