Shad Derby on Saturday - Rain or Shine!

The most popular Festival in Central Connecticut is here again! And here is the full program.

 The 2014 Shad Derby Festival Chairs Kristin G. Hoffman & Neill Sachdev proudly announce the following line-up for the 2014 Windsor Shad Derby Festival & Parade on Saturday May 17, 2014 from 9am-4pm on the Town Green in Windsor Center.

9 AM - Windsor's Most Beloved Festival kicks off at 9 AM with the FREE giveaways of the popular Shad Derby Festival Derby Hats to the first 1,000 people on the Town Green. The morning also marks the highly anticipated return of Radio 102.9 FM to broadcast live in front of Town Hall for the first time in over 30 years !! 102.9 FM's radio personality Floyd Wright and road team will be broadcasting live and having fun with games & prizes throughout the day.
10 AM - The Shad Derby 5K Road Race presented by the Windsor Kiwanis Club starts at 10AM. Day of registration for runners and walkers is still available till 8:45 AM on Derby Day in the Town Center.
11 AM - The second annual Shad Derby "Cooking Shad" Demo begins at 11 AM featuring Chef Renee' and Windsor High School's Award Winning Culinary Program Students serving samples of different Shad appetizers for spectators to sample and enjoy.
11 AM - The Shad Derby Beer Garden Opens for residents 21 and older to enjoy. Select beers and the new, very popular, limited edition Back East Brewery Shad Derby Pale Ale will be featured in the beer garden.
11:30 AM - The always popular Shad Derby Parade sponsored by the Windsor Jaycees kicks off from Windsor High School at 11:30 AM. Make sure to pick your favorite seat and enjoy the fun filled Parade featuring bands, floats, the 2014 Shad Derby Queen & her Court and all the shad Derby Queen Candidates as well as many more participants !!!
1:00 PM - Right after the parade enjoy the classic sounds of Windsor natives Gene Donaldson & Friends featuring Mark Mercier of the legendary band Max Creek in the beer garden.
1:00 PM - The Shad Derby Kids Pie Eating Contest starts on the steps of Town Hall for the first 15 contestants to sign up. The chocolate pie eating contest is sponsored by Windsor's Get Baked Bakery and is FREE to enter for the first 15 kids to sign up and compete. Winner will receive a gift card from Get Baked Bakery.
1:30 PM - The first ever Mac N' Cheese Eating Contest sponsored by Bear's Smokehouse BBQ begins at 1:30pm for participants 18 years of age and older. The person to eat the most Mac N' Cheese in a 5 minute time frame will win a $100 Gift Card to Bear's Smokehouse BBQ. Free to enter.
2:00 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:00 PM & 3:30 PM - The second annual Wild Wings Eating Contest sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings begins the first of 4 boneless wings contests at 2pm. Starting at 2pm, 10 contestants will compete to see who can eat 12 boneless wings the fastest. Winners to receive a $50 gift card from Buffalo Wild Wings. First 10 people to sign up are entered to compete. Must be 18 years of age or older to compete. FREE to enter.
The Festival Chairs encourage all residents and visitors to come down and enjoy the Festival on the Town Green on the 17th from 9am-4pm. Residents are encouraged to park early in the morning in the center and enjoy the day with their families and loved ones on the Town Green. Visitors are also encouraged to take the shuttle from Windsor High School that runs throughout the afternoon. No bikes or dogs allowed on the Town Green for the safety of everyone on the Green.
