Local Woman Ditches Frozen Tundra To Get Baked
At a recent visit to Get Baked, Caryn Woodward displays a custom-baked cake while owner Emily Woodward presents a check for $2,221.09 to Lisa Gerrol, President of the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter. Emily and her mother, Caryn, are both residents of WINDSOR where the bakery is located.
Caryn was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1991. In support of her mother's ongoing battle against MS, Emily, who opened the bakery 12 months ago, saved her tips and then donated them to the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter. Emily was inspired to open Get Baked after working in the kitchen at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, where she worked on three separate occasions, for six months at a time. Get Baked prepares everything by hand and from scratch. The bakery features freshly-baked muffins, breads, desserts and breakfast sandwiches. The bakery also serves organic coffee. Get Baked is located at 25 Central Street, Windsor in the Central Street Antiques Building. The bakery is open weekdays 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekends 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information on the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, please visit www.ctfightsMS.org
